Training & Development
The benefits of developing your Cultural Intelligence are:
- Leaders can lead and adapt effectively anywhere
- Teams improve collaboration … and effectiveness
- It is a key skill for building inclusive cultures
- Trust is built across differences and teams
- Anxiety, misunderstandings and staff turnover are reduced.
There are over 1000 peer reviewed academic research papers around the world demonstrating these benefits. You can explore some of the research and case studies here:
What is the change you want to see?
- Leadership development?
- Effective Teams?
- Building trust and communicating across differences?
Lucy is one of ten Master Facilitators in Cultural Intelligence in the world. Her approach is to design to your needs and for the results you need to see; rather than give you a development programme designed for someone else in another context.
There are four potential stages to working with me:
1. Consult
Before starting any development programme, the first stage is to get a real understanding of your context, your cultural challenges and what impact you would want any development programme to have, whatever its duration, so that language, scenarios and exercises can be tailored to you.
2. CQ Assessments
Increasing a person’s CQ often begins with taking an assessment. Each participant will be invited to take an assessment (provided from Cultural Intelligence Center). There are options for both self and 360 assessments.
Taking the assessment takes roughly 25 minutes. Upon completion a personal feedback report can be downloaded which gives feedback on the 4 CQ capabilities, 13 sub-dimensions and 10 behavioural preferences.
Feedback is always private to each individual, however for groups of more than ten people anonymised group reports can be used which highlight team capabilities and cultural preferences which enable focus on key actions for development.
3. Learning
Whether a short one off, or a year long programme of events the learning events will always be interactive, relevant and encourage self-reflection to establish understanding of strengths and areas for development. Always based on leading academic research in the field of CQ and learning design. When useful Lucy works in collaboration with other trainers to ensure you get the learning event and result you need.
4. Sustain
In order to deepen and embed learning and improvements there are a range of options including:
• Individual coaching for participants to reflect on their assessment and/or context to support changes most useful and relevant to them. (Especially useful for leaders and/or culture change ambassadors)
• Team coaching (typically no more than 6 people in a group)
• Planning implementation sessions and/or reviews
• Facilitated discussions a period of time later to review impacts of CQ development programme against aspirations and consider next steps.
Strengthening your cultural intelligence, and that of your teams, drives improved results.

CultureLAB
Inclusive Cultures: Exploring with cultural intelligence and Lego® Serious Play® is (at minimum) a one day workshop for teams and organisations to generate insights and create plans which lead to overcoming issues that are holding them back from being truly inclusive.

Previous participants have described the day as:
“Leading discussion through Lego representation was a novel way to break down barriers and encourage conversation across people from different cultures, languages, experiences and preferences aligning to our international programme of work and value of diversity. This approach yielded powerful discussion and one which gives the speaker ownership, removing any awkwardness or intense eye contact, which, frankly, isn’t for everyone!

“I’d say this training was brilliant and should be rolled out more widely!”

Testimonials
“ I joined an online cultural intelligence session with Lucy during lockdown and it was a real joy to connect with someone who is so deeply interested and engaged in the human capacity to connect across cultures, and actively develop the skills and competencies to enable us to do this better. I subsequently reached out to Lucy to develop an online CQ masterclass series for students at University College Dublin and an appreciated in person ‘Inclusive Internationalisation’ session for staff during UCD Global Week. The Masterclasses proved extremely popular, particularly among students who recognised the importance of CQ for enhancing their employability, building friendships and working more effectively in an interconnected world.”
Caroline Mangan, Associate Director, UCD Global – University College Dublin
“Lucy is an excellent and considered facilitator with great people skills. Lucy came to deliver a session on CQ and unconscious bias for my team. Her communication with me prior to the day, and after was very professional. The session she ran really got us thinking about what we want to change using CQ as a tool. The clarity and time she took with us as individuals during the day was exceptional. I can highly recommend Lucy and her work.”
Leyla Okhai, Head of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Centre, Imperial College London

I’m happy to commend her as one of our finest collaborators around the world.”
